Sample Plates and Validation Tabs

Policy

Sample licence plates and sample validation tabs are issued to anyone on request.

Plate Configuration

Sample plates are:

  • Identical to the standard issue in shape, size and colour.
  • Bear the characters SAM 000.

Validation Tab Configuration

Sample validation tabs:

  • Show the year for which the tab was issued.
  • The word SAMPLE replaces the audit control numbers.

Stock Available

Sample Plates

  • Plates with black characters on a yellow background issued from 1975 to 1983.
  • Plates with red characters on a white background issued from 1984 to current.

Sample licence plates are not available for Veteran licence plates (including motorcycle veterans' licence plates).

Sample Validation Tabs

Tabs are available from 1982 to the current year.

Requests for sample stock must be in writing and forwarded to:

Motor Vehicles mails sample stock directly to the client.

No Charge

Sample plates and validation tabs are issued to all government agencies (municipal, provincial, federal, international, etc.) at no charge.
