4.35.01 (3-pass) Private Passenger Vehicles
Policy
The 3-pass plate class is used to register cars, light trucks, vans and motor homes exclusively used for personal transportation on a private, non-commercial basis.
Clients registered with a 3-pass plate class may apply for a veterans’ plate. For registration requirement information, see Veterans’ Plates – Section 4.45.08.
Exceptions
Although commercial, couriers and transporters of Canada Post mail are generally issued 3-pass plates, they are eligible for any class of plate. Loaner vehicles from garages and body shops may also be registered in a 3-pass plate class.
Registration Requirements
A client must:
- Provide proof of acceptable identification, see Acceptable Identification/Enrolment – Section 2.05.02.
- Provide proof of ownership, see Vehicle Ownership, Creation and Registration Documents – Section 4.00.01.
- Provide proof of insurance, see Insurance Documents – Section 4.00.02.
- Provide an Alberta address, see Addresses & Acceptable Abbreviations – Section 2.10.01.
