Policy
The 3-nmc plate class (formerly 3-mc) is used to register a two and three wheel vehicles that have been classified as a motorcycle and designed to be operated on streets and highways. To verify if a motorcycle can be registered in the 3-nmc registration class, see QR 4.4 Motorcycle Classes(pdf) and QR 4.20 Motorcyle NVIS Body Type Codes.
While registry agents are expected to share the information available regarding vehicle style and eligibility for registration, ultimately the onus lies on the client to ensure the vehicle they are registering is eligible for registration (unless this policy and associated QR’s explicitly state a vehicle can or cannot be registered).
Clients registered with a 3-nmc plate class may apply for a veterans' motorcycle plate. For registration requirement information, see 4.45.08 Veterans' Plates.
Off-highway bikes and vehicles are not registered in the Class 3-nmc category, see 4.35.03 (3-noh) Off-highway Vehicles.
