4.25.02 (1-52) Public Service Bus
Policy
The 1-52 plate class is used to register a bus that transports passengers:
- Over a specified route on a regular schedule.
- As a charter providing pre-arranged, prebooked service to a group (two or more passengers), this includes vans, limousines, etc.
- As an industrial bus (contractual service, e.g. contracted to transport Suncor employees).
- Operating as an airport passenger service by which passengers are transported and the vehicle has an originally designed seating capacity of 11 or more passengers including the driver.
- From one or more pick-up points to an airport and the only drop-off point is the airport.
or - From an airport to one or more drop-off points and the only pick-up point is the airport.
- From one or more pick-up points to an airport and the only drop-off point is the airport.
Note:
When a registry agent is unsure of the plate classification to issue for the vehicle they may contact Alberta Transportation Carrier & Vehicle Safety.
Registration Requirements
A client must provide:
- Proof of acceptable identification, see 2.05.02 Acceptable Identification/Enrolment.
- Proof of ownership, see 4.00.01 Vehicle Ownership, Creation and Registration Documents.
- Proof of insurance, see 4.00.02 Insurance Documents.
- The originally designed seating capacity of the bus.
- An Alberta address, see 2.10.01 Addresses & Acceptable Abbreviations.
Note:
An Operating Authority Certificate is no longer required.
Operating Requirements
One or both of the following requirements may be required for operating purposes only:
- A Safety Fitness Certificate (SFC).
- A Commercial Vehicle Inspection Certificate.
