4.25.11 (1-61p) Prorated General Merchandise for Hire
Policy
The 1-61p plate class is used to register a vehicle that is:
- Operated within Alberta and at least one other jurisdiction.
and - Transports general merchandise of someone other than the registered owner.
Registration Requirements
Registry Agent Office
The client must provide:
- Proof of acceptable identification; see 2.05.02 Acceptable Identification/Enrolment.
- Proof of ownership; see 4.00.01 Vehicle Ownership, Creation and Registration Documents.
- A summary of fees or Prorate Fee Notice
- A Fleet Summary Report must be printed from MOVES to ensure the vehicle(s) has been processed through the Prorate Office.
- The fees listed must be paid in full. Partial payments are not permitted.
Note:
A prorate cab card must be issued with all vehicle services except duplicate vehicle registrations.
Operating Requirements
One or both of the following requirements may be required for operating purposes only:
- A Safety Fitness Certificate (SFC).
- A Commercial Vehicle Inspection Certificate.

Registration Fees
Alberta Transportation, Prorate Services calculates registration fees. The fees are calculated based on the percentage of total distance travelled by the carrier within each jurisdiction.
