4.25.07 (1-56) Truck Rental
Policy
The 1-56 plate class is used to register trucks, vans, buses and other vehicles (excluding passenger vehicles). The vehicles are rented:
- To the general public for private or commercial use.
- Without a driver.
- For a period not exceeding 30 days.
The 1-56 plate class is not for registering cars, see 4.25.05 (1-56) Car Rental.
Registration Requirements
A client must provide:
- Proof of acceptable identification, see 2.05.02 Acceptable Identification/Enrolment.
- Proof of ownership, see 4.00.01 Vehicle Ownership, Creation and Registration Documents.
- Proof of insurance, see 4.00.02 Insurance Documents.
- The originally designed seating capacity when the vehicle (bus) is designed to carry 11 passengers or more (including the driver).
- An Alberta address, see 2.10.01 Addresses & Acceptable Abbreviations.
- The Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW).
Operating Requirements
One or both of the following requirements may be required for operating purposes only:
- A Safety Fitness Certificate (SFC).
- A Commercial Vehicle Inspection Certificate.

One Way Rental
One way rental trucks registered with a 1-56 plate class must contact Alberta Transportation, Prorate Services for initial application.
