3.15.09 Operator Return - No Refund
Policy
An operator return service with no refund is used when an individual surrenders a driver’s licence or Identification Card (ID) due to:
- A licence suspension.
- The card being expired and the client not wanting to renew (including when a Executor/Executrix returns a deceased client’s driver’s licence or ID card; see 2.05.01 Individual Client Creation & Demographic Changes).
Licensing Requirements
A client must:
- Surrender their driver’s licence in person.
- An interim licence cannot be used in an operator return service with no refund. The permanent driver licence must be received and surrendered before an operator return service with no refund can be processed.
- If the driver’s licence is not available, a Statutory Declaration must be completed and sent for imaging.
A registry agent must:
- Enter the return date.
- Record the reason the driver’s licence was returned in the reason field.
- Destroy the surrendered Alberta driver licence, see 3.15.10 Destruction of Returned Alberta Driver’s Licences & Identification Cards.
Note:
When a driver’s licence or ID Card is returned by a third party (e.g. someone finds someone else's licence), do not enter it on MOVES. Destroy the surrendered Alberta driver licence, see 3.15.10 Destruction of Returned Alberta Driver’s Licences & Identification Cards.
Service Fees
A service fee is not charged for an Operator Return – No Refund Service; see the Registry Agent Product Catalogue (pdf).
